At the age of 26 a student at lècole du Vieux Colombier directed by Jaques Copeau, Decroux formalizes the idea a form of theatre art that implicates the body in motion. This discovery comes as such a revelation to him that he decides to dedicate the rest of his life to the construction and develpoment of Corporal Dramatic Mime.
From 1926 to 1945, he continues a prestigious career as an actor interpreting roles for both the theatre and for the screen under the direction of Copeau, Jouvet, Dullin, Artaud, Carné, a.s.o.. In 1940, with a desire to reform theater, he creates his own mime school and eventually his own troupe in 1941. From then on he keeps on creating and teaching the development of his art.
In 1946, Etienne Decroux abandons his career in cinema in order to devote himself entirely to the art of mime. Resolute to reveal his art to the world he begins as series of world tours
Through his research and creations Etienne Decroux has influenced generations of artists working in different fields such as theater, dance and circus.
